Although I was Saved by Jesus Christ at a very young age, I didn’t really understand the weight of salvation until I had to repent for a sin that I thought was beyond grace. I don’t share that story, but I can tell you that I knew I shouldn’t disobey God, but I did anyway. I didn’t feel that God should forgive intentional disobedience. That was a powerful realization, that the gift of grace is totally free. I might not be able to forgive myself, but Jesus is just waiting for the chance to bring me closer to him!
A few months ago I was talking to a relative. She had lost a child. Her heart ached and nothing could heal that pain. That was her pivotal coming to Jesus moment. When she shared her story of total reliance on Jesus and digging into the word of God, I realized that the catalyst for salvation could be other things besides forgiveness of sin.
When Jesus died, he saved us from physical death and spiritual death, which is separation from him. I was so excited to discover that God can reach out and turn us to him during both events, sin and also facing death.
But wait, there’s more! I just had an a-ha moment! Jesus can turn us to him during any event that causes us to realize we can’t do this life alone. Any time that we realize our total dependence on him. Another friend said she was in a bad car accident and her mind was opened, her heart could understand the expression in the Bible that he gives us our very breath. God works in miraculous ways.
The question for each of us is, will we acknowledge our total dependence on him today? Will we realize he is our light, and provides our earth, our relationships, and without him this existence is meaningless? Will we thank him? Will we put our trust in him? Will we acknowledge our mistakes, however big or small, and allow him to cover them with his grace?
I am so grateful for each time the Holy Spirit reveals truth to me! Thank you Jesus for your love!
